Sylvander House, Balwyn North
NEITHER STONE RAISES ITS VOICE.
No feature wall, no hero slab: nothing in this Balwyn North house, stone by Aboda, design by Philip Mannerheim, is staged for the photograph. Bianco Carrara C, white with soft grey feathering, simply works, on the kitchen benchtops, up the splashback, across the vanity tops. Galala, an Egyptian limestone the colour of cream, is handed the entire bathroom and warms it wall to floor around the bath and its window. The one flourish permitted is a moulded classical fireplace, white above a dark hearth, and even it whispers.
